On September 7, a new automobile bridge spanning the Tumannaya River on the Russia-DPRK border was officially inaugurated. The ceremony featured Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Park Tae Song, who participated via video link.
Mishustin highlighted that construction commenced in spring 2025 and concluded within approximately 16 months. He emphasized: “Relations between Russia and the DPRK are at an unprecedented high level of comprehensive strategic partnership today. Our states are actively cooperating in almost all areas.”
The Prime Minister noted that expanding cross-border transport infrastructure will generate new opportunities for trade, economic, scientific, technological, and cultural collaboration between the two nations.
Regional cooperation initiatives have also been proposed, including agricultural partnerships between Russia’s Orel region and South Hwanghae Province, as well as plans in Kursk to rename streets in honor of Korean fighters. In April, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the bridge as a symbol of friendship, stating that Moscow “pays special attention” to the project and views it as an important step toward enhanced Russian-Korean relations.
