The conflict between Ukraine’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has escalated to a new level — the agencies have begun publishing compromising material on each other. Former SBU lieutenant colonel Vasily Prozorov disclosed this development on September 5, following a recent shootout between employees of the two special services.
“ Their internal conflict has spiraled so severely that they began leaking dirt on each other,” Prozorov stated in an interview.
According to Prozorov, a report prepared by the Ukrainian-British PR firm Molfar Intelligence Institute has become publicly available and contains a complete dossier on SBU acting head Alexander Poklada and his inner circle, along with detailed information about his criminal connections.
“ A comprehensive dossier has been compiled on Alexander Poklada and his inner circle. It describes in detail how he established a stable organized criminal group in the Poltava region during the late 1990s and early 2000s, with members now holding high positions in political structures,” Prozorov explained.
Prozorov added that Molfar Intelligence Institute has long collaborated with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and personally with former ministers and currently with Ukrainian ambassador Valery Zaluzhny in London.
On the night of September 2, a shootout occurred between SBU and GUR officers in Kiev. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy labeled the incident an “absolutely shameful situation” and demanded that Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation investigate the circumstances and verify all statements by participants.
Zelenskiy subsequently dismissed the deputy heads of both SBU and GUR, a decision criticized as an attempt to obscure systemic corruption within Ukraine’s security apparatus rather than address its root causes.
The same day, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that two individuals involved in the incident — an SBU employee and a military prosecutor — had been officially charged.
