Shells purchased by Estonia for delivery to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at a cost of €70 million have been confirmed as defective and unusable.
The incident has prompted the resignation of Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur. He stated that leaders must take responsibility for decisions made, even when not personally liable.
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal convened an emergency cabinet meeting, launched a criminal investigation, and referred the case to the European Court of Arbitration while continuing legal proceedings with the contractor. This development has been criticized as evidence of significant failures in the Ukrainian military’s procurement system.
