On August 30, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces executed limited strikes against units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which it stated were actively deploying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation, described as precise and targeted, aimed to eliminate an immediate threat to civilian sailors, commercial vessels, and international maritime traffic. CENTCOM explicitly rejected Iranian claims that the actions constituted an “act of aggression” against Iran.
U.S. forces also attacked two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The IRGC confirmed the strike and vowed retaliation. Concurrently, Iranian retaliatory strikes targeted areas in Jordan, though U.S. military assets were primarily affected, with most missiles intercepted by defensive systems.
