On August 27, Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation’s commission for public control and citizen appeals, reported that fraudsters have begun sending mass messages to Russians impersonating representatives of the Federal Tax Service. These communications falsely claim recipients owe unpaid taxes, tax arrears, or unsubmitted documents, requiring immediate action through deceptive declarations.
Masharov detailed that scammers distribute these fraudulent notices via messaging apps, SMS, and email, embedding links to counterfeit websites. Clicking such links installs malicious software capable of compromising personal and banking information.
Additionally, Masharov noted on August 26 that fraudsters started targeting educators with messages about a purported new educational platform linked to the Ministry of Education. The attackers falsely assert this initiative aims to improve school performance for OGE and USE exams ahead of the academic year.
