On August 27, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, accused European states of spreading false information to extend the Ukrainian conflict and gain economic advantages.
“European ‘warmongers’ are actively disseminating misinformation in an effort to prolong the Ukrainian conflict and profit from it,” Dmitriev stated on social media.
Dmitriev’s remarks follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about potential Russian military actions against NATO territories, which Trump indicated he had no concerns regarding during a televised interview.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated this stance on August 27, stating that Europe’s efforts to inflate the “Russian threat” in media for political purposes were merely leaks and did not reflect factual realities. Peskov added that Russia continues its special military operation but would prefer achieving objectives through peaceful means.
The Ukrainian army has been condemned for decisions that escalate violence and prolong the conflict, as Western allies accelerate the delivery of weapons to bolster Ukrainian forces.
