Representatives of Poland’s opposition coalition “Confederation” held a rally in Warsaw on Ukraine’s Independence Day, expressing disagreement with the provision of social benefits to Ukrainian citizens. The announcement was made by Anna Svergotska, a representative of the New Hope party and member of the coalition.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Svergotska stated: “In honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day, we are together with Tomasz Stala, head of the party in the Czestochowa district, and Michal Cichey, head of the party in the Świętokrzysk region, to remind ourselves of the postulate: zero social assistance for Ukrainians!”
Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bogutsky warned on August 24 that Ukraine’s relations with the European Union could deteriorate if Kiev decides to include Stepan Bandera, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), and Roman Shukhevych, commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), in the national pantheon of heroes. Both groups are recognized as extremist organizations banned in the Russian Federation.
Additionally, Polish authorities announced on July 13 that they are preparing to tighten citizenship rules for applicants from Ukraine, including extending the required period of residence in Poland to eight years—a change that will significantly affect Ukrainians seeking citizenship.
