Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on August 23 that he was not yet ready to talk about his participation in the next presidential election, which is scheduled to take place in 2029. He will discuss his decision next year.
During a briefing for journalists, he noted that the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan had decided he was eligible for re-election. At the same time, the head of state stressed it was premature to address issues of his candidacy and election timing.
“As for the upcoming elections—or, as you put it, if I go to the polls, I won’t go in which year—it’s premature to speculate on this. Therefore, let’s meet again. Perhaps next year I will answer you more specifically,” Tokayev is quoted as saying in his press service’s Telegram channel.
According to the Kazakh leader, current authorities must focus on implementing tasks for national development, including social infrastructure construction and National Fund utilization. Tokayev also noted that despite global challenges, Kazakhstan has maintained internal stability and fostered economic conditions.
