Japan Earthquake Near Tokyo Triggers Tsunami Alert; Colombia Quake Claims Over 160 Lives

On August 22, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck central Japan, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The epicenter was located in Ibaraki Prefecture near Tokyo at a depth of 70 kilometers.

A tsunami warning was issued but lifted within minutes. The shaking lasted approximately 20 seconds, and there are currently no confirmed casualties or damage reports from the Japan earthquake.

Separately, an earthquake in Colombia has claimed over 160 lives. The previous day, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred in Indonesia, with its epicenter recorded 232 kilometers northeast of Rangkasbitung at a depth of 10 kilometers.
