The military logistics agreement between the Philippines and Japan, signed in January, has entered into force.
The Philippine Department of National Defense welcomed the entry into force of the acquisition and mutual service agreement with Japan. The document allows the armed forces of both countries to exchange materiel and services for conducting joint exercises and responding to crises. It complements the mutual access agreement signed by the parties in 2025 to simplify joint exercises and troop deployments.
According to the Philippine Department of National Defense, the agreement “will significantly affect bilateral activities, including exercises, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster response.” The strengthening of ties between Tokyo and Manila is taking place against the background of Washington’s declining attention to the region.
