American actor Miles Bullock B has been cast as Dr. Dre in Universal Pictures’ upcoming biopic “Snoop,” which chronicles the life and career of rap icon Snoop Dogg. The film, directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Snoop Dogg himself alongside Brian Grazer and Sarah Ramaker, will feature Jonathan Daviess in the lead role as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., known professionally as Snoop Dogg.
Bullock B joins Universal Pictures’ project as one of its key performers. The 35-year-old actor, best recognized for his roles in “Black Mafia,” “Runaways,” and “The Vince Staples Show,” brings experience to the role that has been described as a defining career milestone. Jonathan Daviess, known for portraying Pope Hayward in Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” was cast as Snoop Dogg in 2025 and made his official debut at CinemaCon in April 2026, where he presented the film alongside Snoop Dogg, who personally introduced him to the audience.
The biopic will focus on the early career of Snoop Dogg, particularly his collaboration with Dr. Dre that led to the founding of Death Row Records and the release of the landmark album “Doggystyle.” This period saw Snoop rise from a local rapper in Long Beach to become one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. The film, described by Universal Pictures as a “definitive biography,” will use music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog but has not yet revealed specific tracks or the exact narrative timeframe.
Snoop Dogg’s real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., and his nickname “Snoopy” originated from his resemblance to the Peanuts comic book character. In his early years, he recorded home demos with artists including Nate Dogg, Warren Gee, and Lil’ ½ Dead under the group name 213—a reference to Long Beach’s telephone code. Dr. Dre, who had left N.W.A. at the time, invited Snoop to audition after hearing one of his recordings. Their first major collaboration resulted in the song “Deep Cover,” which became Snoop Dogg’s debut single and led to his appearance on Dr. Dre’s album “The Chronic” and the creation of “Doggystyle.”
The film’s production is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026 in Los Angeles, following delays as Snoop Dogg sought a creative team capable of accurately representing his legacy. After initially announcing the project in 2022, Snoop Dogg emphasized that he wanted the biopic to honor his journey without oversimplifying its complexities. The film will also explore the evolving relationship between Snoop and Dr. Dre, including their eventual reunion for collaborative projects such as “2001” and a Super Bowl halftime performance with Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent in 2022.
This biopic marks Snoop Dogg’s first full-length film entirely dedicated to his life story, following his previous appearance in the 2015 film “The Voice of the Streets.” Universal Pictures confirmed that the project will be one of the studio’s first under Death Row Pictures’ partnership with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
