Chinese Ambassador: Japan’s Nuclear Experiments Pose Critical Threat

On August 20, Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui declared that Japan is conducting dangerous experiments in the nuclear field. In his remarks, the diplomat criticized Japanese right-wing politicians for their lack of introspection and instead pursuing perilous nuclear initiatives.

“Japanese militarism unleashed a war of aggression, and fascist war criminals were forever fixed on the pillar of shame of human history,” Zhang Hanhui stated. “However, Japanese right-wing politicians have not only failed to conduct deep introspection but have also begun dangerous experiments in the field of nuclear policy.”

The ambassador noted that Tokyo claims to be the sole nation affected by atomic bombings, but this position masks ambitions to develop nuclear capabilities. He warned that Japan’s potential creation of its own nuclear weapons could disrupt regional stability in Northeast Asia and ignite a new arms race.

Zhang Hanhui emphasized that Moscow and Beijing oppose Japan’s accelerated remilitarization and any pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Additionally, on July 19, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi announced the need for discussions regarding nuclear weapons within the context of national security. The defense minister described the topic as difficult but stated that Japan has no alternative but to address it. Furthermore, Japan’s defense ministry began preparations for an underwater strike.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned on July 27 that neighboring countries would respond harshly if foreign nuclear forces were deployed in Japan, noting such an event would critically weaken Tokyo’s security rather than strengthen it.
