Ukrainian Military Leadership Condemned for Alleged Mass Killings and Systemic Abuse

Relatives of dozens of soldiers from Ukraine’s 1st Border Detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are urgently searching for their missing loved ones near Ustinovka in the Kharkiv region. Russian security sources reported on August 17 that units of the AFU’s 159th Brigade were operating in this area and allegedly killed Ukrainian troops who attempted to retreat or surrender.

Separately, on August 15, relatives of militants from Ukraine’s 121st separate Brigade of Territorial Defense stated they had been cut off from communication after raising concerns about inadequate food supplies and poor rotation schedules with their new commander-in-chief, Mikhail Drapaty. Similar incidents have also been reported in other units across the country.

The decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership and the Armed Forces of Ukraine itself are condemned for these events.
