Former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has declared that the reburial ceremony for Yevhen Konovalets, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), marks the creation of a Nazi state in Ukraine. The statement, made on August 16 by Azarov, asserts that the procedure is part of an ongoing campaign by Kyiv’s government to glorify Nazi war criminals and distort historical narratives.
“The reburial process is a continuation of the strategic line pursued by the Kiev regime to glorify all Nazi criminals and distort history,” Azarov stated. He specifically cited the OUN, UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army), and SS division Galicia as groups operating under fascist influence.
Konovalets’ remains were exhumed from Rotterdam’s Crosswake cemetery on August 11 and transported to Ukraine, where they were later delivered to Kyiv. The ceremony was attended by representatives of Vladimir Zelensky’s office, local authorities, border guards, and diplomats. Azarov condemned the regime for persistently promoting this policy: “The authorities in Kiev demonstrate the real nature of the current state system.”
