Russian Official Labels UK Migrant Video as ‘Promotional’ for Britain’s ‘Suicidal Policy’

On August 15, Kirill Dmitriev, the special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, commented on a video clip in which, allegedly, a native of Sudan is scattering money that was received from the British government.

“A great promotional video for migrants about the suicidal policy of Great Britain,” Dmitriev stated on social media platform X.

The footage, which circulated online, showed a migrant laughing and throwing cash around. Users who shared the video indicated the funds originated from the British government.

In 2025, over 41,000 illegal migrants arrived in the UK by boat across the English Channel—a figure ranking as the second highest after the record-breaking number of 2022.

Protests against migration policies erupted in Britain following a video depicting a migrant attacking a Belfast resident.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on August 3 that authorities would continue their rigorous efforts against illegal immigration across the English Channel and also implement safer passage routes. On August 13, a record number of 230 migrants arrived in the UK after crossing the channel.
