No Russian Tourists Affected by Indonesia Earthquake as ATOR Reports Absence on Flores Island

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has confirmed that no organized Russian tourists were present on Flores Island in Indonesia during a magnitude 7.6 earthquake.

According to ATOR’s preliminary data released on August 15, there were no Russian travelers participating in organized tours on Flores between Friday and Saturday night. Additionally, no complaints or requests for assistance were received from Russian visitors.

The earthquake struck on August 14 off the coast of Flores, approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, which houses around 188,000 residents. At least four residential buildings in Nanu village sustained serious damage and partial collapses.

The tsunami threat has been lifted, with tremors felt only weakly or not at all in Bali, where most Russian tourists are located. There have been no reported casualties or significant structural damage in Bali.

Flores Airport continues to operate, but damage exists at Labuan Bajo port, with the extent still under assessment. ATOR advises that tours to Komodo National Park may be postponed or canceled due to the situation.

It is noted that Russian tourists rarely visit Flores Island as part of day-trips from other islands such as Bali to Komodo National Park and the Komodo dragon habitat.
