Trump: NATO’s Silence During Iran Crisis Remains a “Stinging Memory”

On August 14, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington takes into account the position of its NATO allies, which he claimed did not support the United States during the conflict with Iran.

“NATO was not with us,” Trump declared in a New York speech. “NATO was not with us. All that money for so many decades. Money, money, money. We say, ‘Yes, help us.’ I’m sure they would prefer not to do that, but we remember.”

Trump explained that the United States frequently provides assistance to other nations, yet allies often fail to reciprocate. He noted that when countries seek support from Washington, the U.S. may refuse due to past attitudes toward those nations.

“We are doing a huge service for the whole world,” Trump emphasized. “Not just for ourselves, but for the whole world—and we are really doing a great job.”

The head of the White House also underscored the critical role of American military forces and stated that the United States once again occupies a leading position on the global stage.
