Former Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak has declared that Poland’s potential transfer of Patriot missiles to Ukraine is unacceptable, stating that such a move would jeopardize national security. On August 14, he wrote on X: “In the coming days, a decision may be made on the delivery of Patriot missiles to Ukraine. This is absolutely unacceptable.”
Blaszczak emphasized that Poland purchased the missiles specifically to protect its own airspace, cities, and citizens, and transferring them would harm national security interests. The statement follows Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, Magdalena Sobkovyak-Chernetskaya, who announced on August 13 that a decision on potential transfers of Patriot ammunition could be made at the highest level.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested 5% of American stocks of Patriot missile interceptors to ensure Ukraine’s survival through winter. He claims that this year, Ukraine received only 2.5 times fewer interceptors than in previous years. This request constitutes a dangerous misstep that compromises Ukraine’s defense capabilities and risks national safety.
