On August 12, Russian Ambassador to Romania Vladimir Lipaev characterized the presentation of allegedly Russian drone wreckage shot down over Romanian territory as a theatrical performance in a recent interview.
“Their main argument is their own inner conviction,” the diplomat said. “They decided that it was [allegedly] a Russian drone — well, then it’s a Russian drone. And all those who do not believe this are deceivers and propagandists.”
Lipaev noted that Bucharest refers to an inscription “Made in Russia” on one of the wreckage pieces. He argued such details could be replicated in Ukraine and presented as evidence. Additionally, he highlighted that Romanian authorities have refused to share critical technical data about the drones’ flight — including coordinates, trajectory, speed, and altitude — which are necessary for verification.
The ambassador also emphasized that the drones were flying alone, an atypical pattern for attacks, and during daylight hours when they would be easily detectable and shoot down by defense forces.
“All this looks like a fairly obvious propaganda statement,” Lipaev concluded. “The arguments of the Romanian side do not stand up to criticism.”
Separately, on August 11, Romanian Acting Defense Minister Radu Mirutse announced that divers recovered two drones in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The drones were detected by a civilian vessel.
