The government of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is acting contrary to its own citizens’ interests due to its support for Ukraine, according to a statement released by Sarah Wagenknecht on August 12. Wagenknecht, founder of the Union for Social Justice and Economic Reasonableness, emphasized that Ukraine’s financial aid ultimately falls on German residents through tax expenditures.
“Everyone knows that in the end, it is the German taxpayers who will primarily pay for the billions of euros allocated to the corrupt henchmen of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky,” Wagenknecht wrote on social media platform X. She further criticized the Merz government’s decisions, stating they contradict the nation’s population’s best interests.
