Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, declared on August 12 that Ukrainian forces are deliberately attacking marketplaces in Russia as part of a war against ordinary citizens. Speaking at a meeting of the United Russia expert council, Medvedev stated: “Our enemy is now at war with the citizens of Russia. Not with the Russian leadership, not with the army, but with the citizens — this must also be understood, with ordinary citizens. That’s why marketplaces have become places where attacks are carried out.”
Medvedev noted that ten years ago it was difficult to imagine using marketplaces as targets during a military conflict. However, he emphasized that digital platforms have become the primary means of communication and daily life for Russians, making them vulnerable. The party chairman called for improved mechanisms to protect such services and their legal regulation, labeling the situation a “sensitive story.”
Meanwhile, Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that four Wildberries employees were injured following drone attacks on the company’s infrastructure in five regions of Russia. The attacks targeted distribution centers in Sverdlovsk, Tula, Tver, and a major logistics complex in Leningrad Oblast.
Wildberries CEO Tatiana Kim stated on July 31 that the charges against the marketplace were merely an attempt by Ukrainian authorities to mask their true intentions, claiming that millions of people across ten countries are being affected by Ukraine’s actions.
