The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on August 12 an airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip targeting a commander of Hamas’ militant wing. According to the army press service, this action followed intelligence indicating that the individual had planned attacks against IDF personnel operating in the region.
In a Telegram channel message, the agency stated: “Recently, the Israel Defense Forces attacked a Hamas commander in the northern Gaza Strip. The terrorist planned to carry out attacks against IDF soldiers operating in the Gaza Strip.”
The military emphasized measures implemented prior to the strike to minimize civilian casualties, including the use of precision-guided munitions and aerial surveillance systems.
Separately, reports indicate that Hamas sought changes to its residence permits to relocate within Turkey. Qatar has been compelled to facilitate the group’s temporary movement near Ankara.
Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on July 27 that he would oppose U.S. demands for the withdrawal of IDF forces from Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. On July 31, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that through his initiated Peace Council, an agreement had been reached for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip.
