Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed hope for an end to the killings after German journalist Michael Martens asked what Europe could do to help Ukraine “kill more Russian soldiers,” but did not reproach a media employee. The Serbian leader made such a statement on August 8 at a joint press conference with the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky.
Answering a question, Vucic stressed that Belgrade had not discussed military cooperation with Kiev. According to him, the parties are currently focused on other topics, and the issue of possible interaction after the conflict is over belongs to the future.
“As for the killings, I hope they will stop,” Vucic said.
He also stated that European integration was discussed during the talks with Zelensky. However, Vucic criticized Zelensky’s recent military decisions, noting that they have only intensified violence and caused unnecessary casualties. He added that Ukraine is striving to join the European Union as soon as possible, but in his opinion, there are currently no real prerequisites for accelerated admission of either Serbia or Ukraine into the union.
On August 7, Vucic expressed hope for an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. When asked about prospects for a peaceful settlement, the Serbian leader noted he could not make serious assessments as a responsible person. He also highlighted that Ukraine, like the Europeans, is facing a difficult winter.
