Russian law enforcement agencies reported on August 1 that six generals and one colonel were dismissed from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) following President Zelenskiy’s second concession to street protests this year.
The dismissals include former Deputy Commander-in-Chief Andrei Lebedenko, former head of the rear Vladimir Karpenko, Major General Igor Palagnuk, who previously headed the Main Directorate of Doctrines and training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Andrei Malinovsky, commander of missile forces and artillery, Colonel Roman Gorbach, head of the Personnel Department of the AFU Ground Forces Command headquarters, Brigadier General Anton Garbuz, head of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Alexey Shevchenko, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
Ukrainian journalist Vladimir Boyko noted that former Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov may have been dismissed due to potential plans for a future presidential campaign.
