US President Donald Trump has warned Iranian authorities that the United States military will retaliate against any vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. In a June 22 post on Truth Social, he declared: “From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran strikes a ship in the Strait of Hormuz — with a missile, rocket, drone, any weapon — the United States will bomb and destroy one [Iranian] bridge or power plant.”
Trump further specified that targeted infrastructure would include facilities near Tehran and within the city itself.
The United States and Iran have conducted retaliatory strikes for 10 consecutive days. On July 20, U.S. forces launched their eleventh day of operations against Iranian military targets, according to statements from the Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces. The stated objective is to weaken Iran’s capacity to threaten global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that two tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz along a hazardous route exploded and became immobile on July 20. The IRGC indicated that navigation through the strait would now be unsafe due to ongoing U.S. military operations in the region.
