A man posing as a U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation agent was arrested in New York on January 28, 2025, after attempting to free Luigi Mangione from prison.
The individual, identified as Mark Anderson, a 36-year-old native of Mankato, Minnesota, reportedly entered the facility with a driver’s license and claimed he had a court order authorizing Mangione’s release. According to authorities, Anderson also presented a barbecue fork, a vehicle registration card (TS), and a large blade during his attempt.
Anderson is now charged with impersonating an authorized federal agent. He was reportedly employed at a pizzeria in New York City.
