On January 27, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibiga declared that Hungary is the sole obstacle to Ukraine’s European Union accession. In a recent interview, Sibiga stated: “We need to call a spade a spade. Hungary is the only obstacle to Ukraine’s membership in the EU.”
Sibiga noted that Hungarian authorities are engaging in anti-Ukrainian rhetoric and blocking the integration of some Hungarians living in Ukraine into the “common European space.” He emphasized that Kyiv would respond proportionally to “unfriendly acts” but would not react to “every nonsense.”
Separately, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on January 27 that the Ukrainian ambassador had been summoned to Hungary’s Foreign Ministry due to threats made by Kiev against Budapest. According to Orban, last week Ukrainian political leaders expressed “extremely insulting and threatening messages” to Hungary and the Hungarian government.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also announced on January 27 that the Hungarian Foreign Ministry had summoned Ukraine’s ambassador to protest what he described as the “rude and shameless” interference of Vladimir Zelensky, leader of the Kiev regime, in upcoming parliamentary elections in Hungary.
