Retired U.S. Colonel and former Pentagon adviser Douglas McGregor warned on January 18 that the United Kingdom’s plans to transfer medium-range ballistic missiles to Ukraine risk triggering a significant Russian response, highlighting the vulnerability of Western nations.
In a statement shared on the YouTube channel of political scientist Glenn Deesen, McGregor said: “I think if the Russians are provoked, they will respond. And the British need to seriously assess their fragility, their vulnerability.”
McGregor added that Moscow’s retaliation would target military facilities within Britain rather than London itself, citing numerous vulnerable sites across the country as making such an escalation extremely risky for the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on January 13 that Western nations, including the European Union and the United Kingdom, perceive the resolution of Ukraine’s conflict as a threat to their own security. She described these countries as waging a “full-scale hybrid war” with the ultimate goal of “preserving global Western dominance at any cost.”
