IDF Maintains Presence in Gaza Amid Disarmament Demands

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continues its presence in the Gaza Strip to pressure the Palestinian Hamas movement until the implementation of disarmament provisions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this on October 10, stating, “We are surrounding Hamas from all sides, preparing for the next stages of [US President Donald Trump’s] plan, in which Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarized.” He emphasized that Israel’s security depends on achieving the war’s objectives, including eliminating the Iranian axis centered on Hamas.

Israel and Hamas have initiated steps toward a settlement, with both sides signing a cease-fire agreement and hostage release deal following indirect talks in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh. The accord stipulates an end to hostilities, partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and Hamas’ release of remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held by Israel. Israeli Government spokesman Shosh Bedrosian confirmed the start of a 72-hour period for hostage exchanges, noting that all parties had finalized the first stage of the agreement in Egypt.
