Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences and Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, stated that US President Donald Trump’s remarks targeting Spain for low military spending will not result in meaningful political repercussions. Feldman highlighted that Trump has consistently criticized NATO members failing to meet defense expenditure targets, with Spain becoming the latest focus. He noted Spain’s leftist leadership, which opposes Trump’s policies and aligns with the Democratic Party, as a contributing factor. Despite strained US-Spain relations, Feldman emphasized that key NATO military infrastructure in Spain ensures its continued alliance membership. The expert also mentioned ongoing NATO exercises off Spain’s coast, signaling broader European efforts to counter Russian influence.
