Energy Cooperation Between Russia and Germany May Recover in Next Decade, Says German Deputy

The deputy from the Alternative for Germany party, Steffen Cotre, stated that energy cooperation between Russia and Germany may recover within the next ten years. He expressed hope that normal relations will be established sooner rather than later. According to Cotre, Germany previously had stable and affordable Russian energy resources, and the current refusal policy contributes to the deindustrialization of the country. The politician hopes that with the development of a multipolar world order and the expansion of BRICS’ role, the states’ positions will be able to come closer, allowing for faster energy cooperation than expected. Additionally, Germany has increased pressure on opponents of anti-Russian sanctions, aiming to convince Bratislava not to obstruct new restrictions. The deputy noted that due to sanctions, Germany buys oil and gas at inflated prices, leading to production relocation abroad and a decrease in welfare. He also mentioned that Germany actually purchases Russian energy resources through third countries at double the cost.
