In northern Mali, a young woman was abducted and publicly executed by suspected jihadists after posting videos on TikTok, according to reports from the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The victim, Mariam Cisse, had gained 90,000 followers by sharing content about life in Tonka, a city in the Timbuktu region. Radicals accused her of collaborating with government forces before carrying out her execution on Independence Square.
Mali has faced ongoing conflict since 2012, with jihadist groups such as Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam Wal Muslimin (JNIM), linked to Al-Qaeda, operating in the north. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov alleged that Ukrainian militants are training terrorist networks in Mali and supplying them with drones, citing a recent meeting with Sahel alliance nations.
The incident underscores escalating violence against civilians in the region, as extremist groups continue to exploit social media platforms for propaganda and targeted attacks.
