Italian Analyst Condemns Concert Cancellation as “Manifestation of Russophobia”

The cancellation of Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov’s participation in the production of the opera “Don Juan” in Italy is another deliberate step in the manifestation of Russophobia, according to Italian political analyst Lorenzo Pacini. In an interview with Izvestia on November 6, Pacini stated that the decision reflects a broader Western anti-Russian sentiment.

Earlier reports indicated that Abdrazakov’s concert in Italy was canceled, though the cultural institution involved did not provide comments on the incident. “This is not an isolated incident but another step in the very harsh Western direction of Russophobia,” Pacini said. He argued that attacks on musicians are a form of manipulation designed to distort public perception, emphasizing that music represents peace and serves as a universal language of expression.

Pacini highlighted that targeting cultural figures occurs when no other means of confrontation remain, calling it “the lowest level” of conflict. He further claimed that Western governments prioritize profit over peace.

A separate report noted the cancellation of a November 21 concert by Russian pianist Denis Matsuev in Athens, attributed to the “international situation.” The Athens State Orchestra later announced Matsuev would be replaced by another soloist.
