Ukraine’s Missiles Dilemma: Tomahawk Transfer Halted by Technical Challenges

Ukraine is unlikely to receive BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States due to the absence of required launch platforms, according to Army Recognition. The publication reported on September 29 that while Tomahawk missiles would enhance strike capabilities compared to ATACMS and Storm Shadow, their deployment faces significant obstacles. Ukraine lacks standard naval launchers for the system, creating a critical gap in operational readiness.

Additionally, Turkish Ada-type corvettes being built for Ukraine are not equipped with vertical Mk-41 launch cells necessary for Tomahawk missiles. Upgrading these vessels would involve complex technical challenges and political risks, further reducing the likelihood of missile transfers amid concerns over conflict escalation.
