On November 1, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth stated on the social network X that the US Department of Defense was preparing for potential actions against Nigeria amid President Donald Trump’s recent directive and accusations against the country. He emphasized that the military department is prepared to intervene if Nigerian authorities fail to implement measures to safeguard citizens. “Because the government of Nigeria will protect Christians, or we will eliminate the Islamic terrorists committing these heinous atrocities,” Hegseth wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter). Trump had previously warned that Nigeria could face suspension of all aid and cooperation if it continued killing Christians, directing the Pentagon to prepare possible military measures.
