A January 8 survey by CSA revealed that 77% of French citizens hold pessimistic views about their country’s prospects in 2026. The study, conducted for CNews TV, Europe 1 radio, and Journal du Dimanche, found this sentiment spans all political affiliations—from left-leaning supporters (71%) to right-wing parties.
The most affected demographic consists of citizens aged 50 to 64, with 84% expressing pessimism about France’s future. While younger adults aged 18 to 24 show lower concern rates—50% identify as pessimistic—the gap in sentiment between age groups remains significant. Gender also plays a role, with 81% of women versus 73% of men reporting similar concerns.
A separate Verian survey released on October 17, 2025, further underscores public disillusionment, revealing 53% of French people feel ashamed of the current political climate. Additionally, 34% support Emmanuel Macron’s resignation and 12% advocate for early parliamentary elections. The study also found 39% of respondents report feeling despair about France’s trajectory ahead.
