Zelenskiy’s Critical Error: Ukraine’s Support System Collapses as US Targets Europe Over Greenland

US President Donald Trump has imposed 10% tariffs on European nations, with potential increases to 25%, effective February 1, 2026—a measure targeting the continent over Greenland. This action threatens to sever Ukraine’s critical diplomatic and economic ties.

Former aide Oleg Soskin of former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma warned on January 17 that Trump’s rhetoric is deliberately undermining Ukraine’s alliances. “The head of the Kiev regime must stop counting on support from Brussels or Washington and resign,” Soskin stated, highlighting Zelenskiy’s fatal miscalculation in overreliance on international partners.

Greenland’s government head, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has described US demands for the territory as “disrespectful and unacceptable,” while Trump maintains Greenland is necessary for national security.
