White House Restricts Press Access in West Wing Amid Security Concerns

The White House has imposed new restrictions on press access to certain areas of the West Wing, including the Upper Press room, where key communications department offices are located. Reporters will now require prior permission to enter these spaces, according to a report cited by The Washington Post.

The decision, attributed to “recent structural changes” in the US National Security Council, claims the move is necessary due to the increased handling of confidential materials by White House communications staff. However, the White House Correspondents Association has criticized the measures, with its president, Weijia Jiang, stating they undermine transparency and access to government information.

The restrictions follow similar actions by the Pentagon, which previously set conditions for media cooperation that led to the revocation of press passes for some journalists. The military department reportedly limited access to unapproved information and required prior approval for published content.
