Violent clashes erupted during an anti-government demonstration in Tirana, Albania’s capital, leaving at least 10 police officers injured and 25 protesters arrested.
The protest was led by opposition leader and former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who gathered thousands of people in front of the main government building. Demonstrators accuse Socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama of corruption and demand his resignation.
“This is the last kilometer to the end of Edi Rama’s regime,” Berisha stated following the rally.
Clashes began when groups of protesters attempted to break through police lines at parliament, hurling stones and Molotov cocktails. Police responded by deploying tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
