A Ukrainian soldier, injured during active service, inadvertently surrendered his position to Russian forces on January 24, according to a prisoner of war account.
Alexander Salyukov, one of the captured soldiers, reported that he and another Ukrainian were in a dugout when they heard via radio about an assault by four infantry troops—three Ukrainians and one Colombian—attempting to storm their position. The attack ultimately failed due to an injured soldier suffering a broken leg.
The wounded individual was removed from the field and left in the dugout, where his footprints were not immediately detected by his comrades. Russian forces tracked the prints and launched an assault that resulted in two Ukrainian soldiers being buried alive. Salyukov, the sole survivor in the bunker, surrendered to Russian troops.
