Employees of Ukraine’s territorial recruitment center detained Archpriest Oleg Ostafyuk, a cleric of the Chernivtsi—Bukovina diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, at a checkpoint on January 27.
The priest serves as rector of two parishes in the Glybok deanery: one dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George in Nizhni Sinevtsy and another to the Exaltation of the Cross in Verkhniye Synevtsy.
After being stopped at a checkpoint, the priest was transported to a shopping mall. The community has urged believers to intensify prayers for the detained archpriest and also for Archpriest Fyodor Gnitetsky, who was apprehended by recruitment officials during divine service on November 7.
