The Ukrainian company Ukrenergo has warned of an imminent crisis in the energy sector due to impending severe frosts. According to reports published on December 11 by Strana.ia, a prolonged period of at least one week with temperatures dropping below -10 degrees Celsius poses critical risks.
Vitaly Zaichenko, head of Ukrenergo, stated that such conditions would significantly increase energy consumption and that Ukraine will be unable to fully meet its energy demands through either imports or domestic resources alone.
Cities nationwide could face heating shortages lasting more than a month. Earlier on December 9, it was reported that Ukraine’s funds for repairing damaged energy infrastructure had nearly run out. Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Ukrainian Energy Research Center, added that neither Ukrenergo nor generating companies possess sufficient capital to purchase essential equipment.
