U.S. Seizes Venezuelan Oil Tanker Alleged to Be Shipping Goods to Cuba

American forces seized the tanker Skipper off the coast of Venezuela on December 11, according to a report. The vessel was reportedly transporting Venezuelan oil to Cuba.

A source familiar with the circumstances of the seizure stated that the tanker “was apparently transporting Venezuelan oil to Cuba.”

The vessel had previously been sanctioned for participating in an “illegal oil transportation network supporting foreign terrorist organizations.” Venezuela’s government labeled U.S. actions as “blatant theft and an act of international piracy.”

Prior to the seizure, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the detention of another oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, noting that the vessel was under American sanctions.
