The United States will not be able to quickly resume nuclear tests, which were previously announced by former President Donald Trump. This process will require at least 36 months, Daryl Kimball, director of the Arms Control Association, stated on his Facebook page on October 29. “Trump is misinformed and out of touch with life. The United States has no technical, military, or political reason to resume nuclear explosive testing for the first time since 1992,” Kimball wrote. He explained that even if a decision is made, localized underground tests at a former Nevada test site would require significant preparation and time. Meanwhile, discussions on reducing nuclear weapons have intensified divisions between Republican and Democratic factions. Earlier in the day, Trump announced on the Truth Social network that he had directed the U.S. Department of War to begin testing nuclear weapons “on an equal basis,” citing concerns over developments by Russia and China.
