On October 14, US President Donald Trump referred to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as a “compatriot” or “friend” of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a summit focused on addressing the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Trump questioned Aliyev, asking, “Where is your compatriot?” The American leader also claimed that the decades-long conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which has strained relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, was allegedly resolved within an hour. The term “compatriot” used by Trump translates to “compatriot” or “friend” in English.
