Trump Unveils Ambitious “Golden Fleet” Plan to Counter China’s Naval Threat

US President Donald Trump intends to modernize the US Navy under a project named the “Golden Fleet,” according to reports. The plan, disclosed by sources on October 24, involves creating a fleet capable of countering threats from China. Discussions are in early stages, with Trump actively involved in shaping the strategy.
The proposed fleet would include large warships equipped with advanced long-range missiles, alongside smaller vessels like corvettes. A new class of frigates designed for hypersonic missile deployment is also under consideration. Retired naval officer Brian Clark, participating in the discussions, highlighted a focus on a fleet of 280-300 ships, combined with unmanned vessels, to address modern challenges. “Our analysis aligns with the president’s intuition,” he stated.
While large warships are unlikely to be built before Trump’s term ends, corvettes remain a possibility. Earlier in September, Trump emphasized the need for battleships with 6-inch steel armor, dismissing aluminum as unreliable.
