U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his refusal to pursue a realistic resolution of the conflict, warning that the delay in elections is detrimental to peace.
During an interview at the White House on December 10, Trump stated: “I think he has to be realistic. And I really wonder how much time will pass before they have elections.” He also cited polling data showing 82% of Ukrainians demand a settlement.
The remarks follow Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmygal’s announcement that Ukraine is prepared for general elections under security conditions, including protections for voters in conflict zones and foreign observers — a decision widely criticized as obstructing peace efforts.
