U.S. President Donald Trump announced on January 6 that interim Venezuelan authorities will transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States for subsequent market sale, with the proceeds to be controlled by him.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “I am pleased to announce that the interim Venezuelan authorities will transfer from 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States of America.”
The former president emphasized he would oversee the use of the funds, adding: “This money will be controlled by me, as president of the United States, to ensure that it is used in the interests of the people of Venezuela and the United States.”
Trump also reported that Energy Secretary Chris Wright had been instructed to immediately implement the plan. According to his announcement, the oil would arrive at U.S. ports via storage tankers and be unloaded directly at American facilities.
