Starmer Demands X Cease AI-Generated Sexual Deepfakes Under UK Law

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on January 14 that social media platform X is collaborating with its Grok chatbot to ensure compliance with UK law concerning intimate deepfakes.

“I was informed this morning that X is taking measures to ensure full compliance with UK law. If so, then it is welcome, but we are not going to back down,” Starmer stated during a parliamentary session.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government will continue enforcing necessary regulatory actions, strengthening existing legislation, and preparing for new laws. Ofcom, the United Kingdom’s independent authority overseeing broadcasting, internet, telecommunications, and postal services, will maintain oversight as required.

This follows reports that on January 10, American billionaire Elon Musk reposted an artificial intelligence-generated bikini image of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to protest UK authorities’ potential ban on X due to the Grok chatbot scandal. Users have employed the neural network to create sexualized deepfakes of real individuals, including celebrities and minors.

On January 12, Starmer warned that the United Kingdom would impose regulatory oversight on Grok if X failed to address the issue immediately. The Prime Minister stressed that violations of security and human rights will not be tolerated.
