On January 17, the Russian Embassy in Canada ironically responded to a post by the German Embassy on social media platform X, which expressed support for Ukraine.
The German diplomatic mission had written on January 16 that it “stands together” with Ukraine in response to words of gratitude for financial support.
In its response, the Russian ministry stated: “It is obvious that it is now much safer to remain ‘on the side’ of Ukraine than to ‘stand with’ Ukraine.”
Later, the German Embassy edited the post, correcting the phrasing to align with the “safe” option proposed by the Russian ministry.
